Ecco the Dolphin; A beautiful Sega Genesis videogame

Ecco the Dolphin is a breathtakingly beautiful game for the Sega Genesis (although I play it on the PlayStation 3. I have a disk for the PS3 called Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, which has about fifty of the most popular Sega Genesis games on it, all rendered in stunning HD so us Genesis fans can enjoy these old games in all their glory)

The basic storyline is that you're a dolphin named Ecco who has lost your pod due to a violent and unexplained catastrophe. All life dissapears from the immediate area around you, so you go on a journey to find out what happened and rescue your family, and you help to save other dolphin pods along the way. It's essentially a puzzle game where you make your way across many seas; tropical, frozen, and even prehistoric! It's got stunning graphics for such an old 2D game and an even more amazing soundtrack. I have to say, this is probably hands-down my favorite Sega Genesis title (Sorry, Sonic the Hedgehog! You'll always be my second-favorite :3 )

Here's the beginning of Ecco if y'all would like to see what it's like (Be sure to turn your sound up so you can hear the music! It's unfortunate this video is in such low quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZAqbCCcXpw )

I am! The game is incredibly nostolgic and holds many memories for me from when I was younger. Nothing calms me more than Ecco and it's beautiful - yet somewhat eerie - soundtrack ^_^ The game helps you take your mind off things too with its puzzles.

One thing to take note of though - this game is HARD! I've never been able to beat it, although i've gotten farther now than I ever have before. The puzzles get more difficult as the game goes on, and you have to evade or kill enemies to keep your health up as well as keep an eye on your breath meter, as, being a dolphin, you have to go to the surface to breathe frequently. It's very challenging to manage all of these things, but so much fun.

haha I have never played Ecco before but maybe I will! IF anyone else would like to play Ecco you can get the freeware download for Windows XP here. The download button is on the top on the right side of the photo.

Oh hai!

I watched a few YouTube videos of it. It reminds me of Endless Ocean a little, and it's so calm and relaxing! And I'll ditto that, TZT. The Graphics really are amazing for quite an old game! I really want to get this now. It looks a simple game, yet strangely intriguing ^_^

This game was my childhood on the old SEGA console. My sister and I use to try so hard to solve the puzzles (At this time we were only 7 &10!) but they were just too confusing. The music was brilliant and it generally was just a lovely game, we're always getting the SEGA Collection too and my sister said she was going to try and beat it this time.

Lovely game, and so many memories. :D

Looks good. I'll try to get it.

Is it 3D or 2D?

Considering your favorite animals is...the shark, you're bound to love this game Bigwhale! ^_^

It's 2D. You gotta remember this is an OLD game - not many 3D games for the Sega Genesis. In fact, there's only one that I can recall, which is Sonic's 3D Blast (also an awesome game :P )
